We have loved spending time in Perth over the warmer summer months and have found plenty of activities that Marcus and I both enjoyed. Here are our top 16 fun things to do in Perth with kids during summer.
1. Visit Yanchep Lagoon
Perth has a beautiful coastline of great beaches, but we think Yanchep Lagoon is perfect for kids as it is sheltered and it is patrolled during the summer months. It is also a popular snorkelling spot as it is surrounded by reef.

2. Take a Day Trip to Rottnest
This is where childhood memories are made, there is something about Rottnest that makes everyone relax. Ride your bike or walk around and explore the island, cool off and take a swim in one of the many beautiful bays, grab some lunch from the bakery or a meal from the Hotel Rottnest. And of course, make sure to get a selfie with a quokka.

3. Picnic at Mundaring Weir
Take a picnic and spend the day out at Mundaring Weir. You can walk across the dam wall, the kids can play in the playgrounds, and explore the walks around the area and learn about the history of how drinking water is pumped out to the goldfields.

4. Wander Through John Oldman Park
This park is an oasis in the middle of a city. It has a great kids playground, plus fantastic walks through lush gardens, with a stunning waterfall.
You can learn more about it here.

5. Explore Kings Park
It’s easy to spend a day at Kings Park, take a tour of the grounds or wander along the paths and explore yourself. Wander over the bridge and take in the views of Perth city and the Swan River, the kids play in one of the many playgrounds. Plus there are cafes for refreshements..

Marcus absolutely loved it here. He felt as though he owned a castle and he was the King of his own land. It’s a place where their imaginations can let them be anything they want.

7. Snorkel the Omeo Wreck Dive Trail
If you love to take the kids snorkelling, this is the place for it. Being so close to shore and relatively shallow, this is a perfect way to spend some time in nature.

8. Take a Swim at Cottesloe Beach
Cottesloe is not only an iconic Perth beach, it is also patrolled and has a shark net for those of us who like the added bit of security. Plus you can wander over the road for a refreshing drink at the hotel.

9. Strike a Pose at Rainbow Containers Fremantle
It’s just so bright and colourful, and it just makes you feel happy. With all the colours you just can help but pose for a photograph.

10. Get Out and About at Yanchep National Park
Wander around the park, see the koalas and guess how many birds you can name on the wetlands walk. Take the kids to the Trees Adventure where they can navigate through the tree tops, and of course the Crystal Cave tour is one not to be missed. Take a picnic and relax on one of the many grassed areas, or grab a bite at the Yanchep Inn.

If the kids love art, then why not spend a bit of time at the WA Art Gallery. Marcus loves seeing all the different art pieces, and we love saying which ones we like and which ones we don’t. Keep in mind not all the artwork is rated G, but the friendly staff will let you know when you arrive.

15. Take a Street Art Tour With Oh Hey WA
Such a brilliant way to spend a morning out with the kids. Starting in Yagan Square, this walking tour takes you around the alleyways of Perth to see all the amazing street art and murals.

16. See All the Animals at Perth Zoo
Always a hit with us, and I personally love the gardens at Perth Zoo. We always love to see the animals and enjoyed our close encounter with the giraffes. We definitely recommend one of these encounters to make your zoo visit even more special.
