Snorkelling the Omeo Shipwreck
WESTERN AUSTRALIA'S ONLY SHORE BASED SHIPWRECK
If you love snorkelling as much as we do, you can't go past a snorkel on the Omeo Shipwreck in Coogee, one of Perth's Southern Suburbs.

We choose to visit on a morning with a light easterly wind, and we were greeted with clear, calm water and great visibility, the perfect snorkelling conditions.
Easily accessible by a set of stairs straight down in front of the wreck, this wreck is only 25 metres from the shore, making it an easy place to snorkel for everyone. The Omeo was driven ashore and wrecked here in 1905 and the City of Cockburn has created this maritime dive trail to increase awareness about the importance of the local maritime heritage, maritime archaeology and history and the amazing marine wildlife which lives here.

We saw large schools of fish whilst we were out snorkelling on the wreck and we had a great morning in the water. It was the first time where I felt confident to take my eyes off Marcus, and let him swim where he pleased, as we were so close to the shore and protected from the wind.
