The Best Places to Eat in Coffin Bay

Coffin Bay is a lovely small town on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. We only stayed about a week, and I thought some people might want some help figuring out where they should go to eat, if they ever visit. These are my top 3 places to eat in Coffin Bay!

Coffin Bay Cafe

It’s in the name; a little cafe in Coffin Bay. We went there for breakfast quite a few times. I got the salted caramel smoothie (my favourite flavour), and french toast. I also tried the chocolate pancakes. The food and drinks were delicious, and I also liked the vibe. Staff were super friendly and helpful. I think my only complaint would be the furniture was a little wobbly? Made it a little difficult to eat my food with the table shakin’ around. Besides that, I really enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying the waterside view. It's a pet friendly establishment as well, so we could take Ollie, our little cavoodle. He loved his puppacino’s ( although he did often throw them up) Definitely recommend you stop by and have breakfast, or even just grab a coffee.

You can find Coffin Bay Cafe at 4/61 The Esplanade, Coffin Bay.

1802 Oyster Bar

Not the time, the restaurant! We only came here one night of our week (we didn't go out EVERY night, just a few of them).  I think out of all the places we went, 1802 was the ‘fanciest’. We decided to sit outside as the day was hot and there was a lovely breeze blowing through. I ordered the squid, which at the time I was expecting to get salt and pepper squid, and instead a whole sliced squid came out to greet me. Admittedly I was a little horrified at first, but once I got over my initial surprise the food was actually really good, not to mention presented beautifully. The staff were very friendly (I suspect they were bored with nothing to do) , and the mocktail I ordered was fabulous! If you don’t want to cook, and wanna go out somewhere that makes you feel rich and fancy, I definitely recommend you try 1802.

You can find 1802 Oyster Bar at 61 The Esplanade, Coffin Bay (yep, next door to Coffin Bay Cafe).

 Oyster HQ

Oyster HQ: The place in Coffin Bay Best known for its fresh oysters, which they get from the oyster farms in the waters of Coffin Bay. I personally am not an oyster fan, so I can’t say I know a lot about where you should get oysters, but in my opinion I recommend coming here. When we went, we got some of their tapas (which are basically entrees). I was quite disappointed in the quantity for how expensive it was, even the churros I ordered after came with barely any chocolate sauce for dipping! It did have lovely views though, and we got to sit right by the ocean and we got to see some pelicans chasing this little shag around, and stealing its food. The mocktail I got was enjoyable, and there was a little language barrier with the lady who served us, but nothing major. I do have to recommend here for desserts, despite the lack of chocolate sauce the churros were delicious.

You can find Oyster HQ at 100 The Esplanade, Coffin Bay (and you can also do oyster farm tours here too.

Have no fear, pub lovers! Coffin Bay does in fact have a pub, the Coffin Bay Hotel. Though it doesn’t include beach views, in the evening you're likely to see some emus or kangaroos grazing out the front. When we went the first time I got half a chicken parmigiana (perfect if you can’t eat a whole one), which was quite good. The second time we shared a veggie pizza. I’m not a fan of olives, but it was really good. Quite a basic pub menu, but if that's what you're after then Coffin Bay Hotel is where you should go!

There are a few more small take-away establishments, like the Peckish Pelican or the Beachcomber, but if you ever find yourself travelling in the Eyre Peninsula I recommend you visit Coffin Bay and treat yourself with a meal at one (or all) of my top 3!
